Organise a meeting   The importance of planning

Your role

It is important to know from the beginning what role you have in researching and preparing a report. You may be:

  • doing the planning, researching or writing
  • one of a number of researchers or writers
  • the coordinator, pulling together the contribution of others
  • the editor.

In preparing the report on the research about finding a suitable location for ValleyView Publishing's new multimedia operations, you would probably be pulling together work done by several people.

You've had a lot of experience in preparing reports and can look back at how you've tackled each job.

Read a memo about last year's annual report in the ValleyView Library (available below in PDF and RTF formats).

Make notes about how you would have coordinated the production of the annual report. Consider such things as:

  • who you would involve
  • how you would meet production timelines.

Post your notes in the ValleyView Meeting room, under the topic Coordinating the annual report, and ask for others to comment on it. Use the comments received to revise your notes and keep a copy of the final version for your records.
