Observational research

This type of research consists of physically watching the behaviour of customers to ascertain what they prefer.

Typically this is used for an activity such as supermarket shopping behaviour, car driving habits or cooking activities. The researcher can either develop theories about the behaviour or collate statistics from the observations that show the customers' preferences or general behaviour.

You can also observe group behaviour to see the products and services they use to meet their needs or desires.
