Building SSO skills; enhancing the
learning environment;
Supporting school improvement.

Study in
the Certificate III in Government (PSP30104) provides
an introduction to the knowledge and skills required to support employment as an SSO
in a school environment.
The SSO
Program offers you the opportunity to undertake study in your own
time and location. If you are currently employed in the education
sector as an SSO, this training program offers you a wonderful opportunity
to recognise existing skills, as well as providing solid induction
training. If your aim is to work in the education area, then the SSO
Program is an ideal starting point to your career path.
To study
in this program you need to be currently working in a school (5-10
hours per week) paid or voluntary.
The assessment questions through-out the training refer to
experiences you may have encountered while working with children or
with the school team. The assessment also requires you to seek
policy and procedure advice from members
of the school staff.

The SSO Program has been designed to be
delivered fully online. We recognise, however, some students need to
receive training assistance and help in person with the teachers.
Where possible we endeavour to organise opportunities for students
to meet and network with teachers and other students. South West
TAFE has campuses at Warrnambool, Portland, Hamilton and
Glenormiston.
Delivery of the SSO Program is Victoria wide
for non-trainee students. If you are considering doing or are doing
this study as part of your Traineeship contract; you need to be in
our delivery area of South West Victoria. This region covers the
area between the South Australian border in the West, Horsham to the
North and through to the Western edges of Melbourne to the East.
