Financial Support FAQIs there assistance for apprentices and trainees?Various subsidies are available for apprentices and trainees. For more information contact the Apprenticeship Field Officer 5564 8917.Do apprentices and trainees get accommodation allowance?Apprentices/trainees attending TAFE for off-the-job training are entitled to an accommodation allowance. Application forms are available from the appropriate Head of Department. Eligibility is for a minimum of two nights and the length of appropriate block release.Can apprentices and trainees get living away from home allowance?Any person who gains an apprenticeship or traineeship and is required to live away from home for their employment is eligible for this allowance. References for this subsidy and for the application forms can be made to the Training Development Officer.Can apprentices and trainees get travel expenses?No travel expenses are available for apprentices and trainees, but if a car is used to travel from home to the Institute, a log book, available from newsagencies, can be completed and then submitted at the end of the financial year for taxation purposes.What are the enrolment fees?These are decided each year by the Department of Employment, Training and Further Education and based on the teaching hours of your course. You will be informed of rates and exemptions on enrolment.What is the general service fee?The general service fee is sometimes called a student services and amenities fee. This fee covers the costs of providing student services and student amenities.What other fees are there?These may include equipment fees, material fees, excursion fees and text books. These should be made clear to you upon enrolment. Please let the Registrar's office or the Student Association know if unexpected fees are charged during the semester.How do I get refunds?TAFE fees will be refunded for students who withdraw from a course within four weeks of commencement in order to take up a place at another tertiary institution. Students who withdraw from a course within four weeks of the commencement of classes for other reasons will be entitled to a refund minus the minimum charge.After four weeks of commencement refunds are not normally payable except in the case of materials fees. In exceptional circumstances a request in writing may be lodged with the Director.
