- South West Institute of TAFE has been selected by the Victorian Government as a Centre of Specialisation for Meat Industry Training. This project enables us to work with individual companies and industry to develop innovative training methods.
- The Institute has been judged by Mintrac as the 2010 National Meat Industry Training provider of the year.
- South West Institute of TAFE currently delivers training across Victoria and Interstate for organizations servicing both the domestic and export markets.
- The Institute is recognised as a leader in the provision of innovative and flexible strategies that enable customisation of courses to meet the needs of individual participants and enterprises.
- The creation of customised training resources and the development of alternative training materials and assessment tools such as audio visual aids and presentations is a focus at South West TAFE. These training and assessment materials enable the engagement of a growing cohort of learners who have language, literacy and numeracy issues.
- South West TAFE specializes in the flexible, workplace delivery of traineeship and apprenticeship qualifications.
- Lean Manufacturing concepts are a focus of South West TAFE’s training delivery. The Institute has provided training for several Government Initiatives that have been designed specifically to introduce and develop Lean Manufacturing concepts for the Meat Processing industry.
- Trainers are required to keep their industry knowledge and qualifications current to ensure quality training outcomes can be achieved. Professional development activities are embedded into our trainers’ internal performance plans. This means each trainer must complete a minimum 30 hours of professional development activity each year. Other requirements for trainers include industry experience, an industry or trade qualification and Certificate IV in Training and Assessment. All MTA staff have completed or are currently undertaking the Diploma of Vocational Education and Training.
- All trainers and assessors have current industry experience and expertise.
