Accuracy

Bear in mind that anyone can publish anything on the Internet. This means you may find inaccurate, misleading or false information.

You need to be vigilant and endeavour to ensure that what you are reading is true.

You should check that:

  • spelling and grammatical errors are not evident
  • reference sources are listed
  • links to other sources are relevant.

Freshness

Choose up-to-date information. Old sites that have not been updated may provide information that has been abandoned or superseded.

Information on outdated web sites may have been accurate at the time of publication but might now be inaccurate or proven incorrect.

You should check that:

  • the date the information was created is given
  • the date of the last update is given
  • reference sources are current
  • links to other sites are functioning.
