Special problems with Internet material

There are many emerging issues in the publishing of Internet materials. One of the biggest issues is the lack of adequate quality controls.

Another issue to be aware of is that much of the material on the Internet may already breach copyright and it may be difficult to establish legitimate copyright ownership.

It is important to remember that copyright law also applies to the Internet. You are able to copy with express permission, or within the limits of a statutory licence.

Of course, as a student you are able to copy within the limits of Section 40 of the Copyright Act. This means you are able to copy up to 10% of the words of a work from an electronic source for the purposes of study or research.

You cannot cache or download an entire web site.
