Trademark
The Macquarie Dictionary defines a trademark as a name, symbol, figure,
letter, word or mark that is used by a manufacturer or merchant to
designate the goods he or she manufactures or sells, and to distinguish
them from those manufactured or sold by others.
| A trademark is different to the registration of a business name.
Trademark registrations last for ten years and can be renewed
indefinitely. Registration gives the trademark owner exclusive use (in
Australia) of the mark as a brand name for the items or services
registered. |
