Intellectual property

Intellectual property is the product of your mind. More specifically, for a business, it is the proprietary knowledge or knowledge owned by the business.

Copyright is one of a number of forms of intellectual property. Other forms of intellectual property are trademarks, designs and patents.

The Commonwealth Government has developed legislation to determine what intellectual property is protected and how the protection applies. The Acts of Parliament include:

  • Copyright Act 1968
  • Copyright Amendment (Digital Agenda) Act 2000
  • Patents Act 1990
  • Trademarks Act 1995
  • Designs Act 1906.
