The Dutch Galleot
(Extract)

Mr. W. J. James, who recently discovered the wreck of the Dutch galleot at Port Fairy, arrived in Melbourne on Wednesday to submit samples of paint or pitch from the vessel’s side to an analyst for the purpose of discovering the vessel’s probable age and other details connected with her.  Mr. James states that the galleot is sheathed in copper, and is evidently of great age.  It is ascertained that her hull is made of Spanish walnut, and she is of 54 to 60 tons burthen.
