Mahogany Ship
(extract)

Mr James who owns the ancient wreck near Port Fairy is now visiting the borough, in company with Mr Le Souef, Director of the Melbourne Zoological Gardens.  On Sunday, a Port Fairy resident, who is a good swimmer, swam around the wreck and reported that the name of the vessel is still to be ascertained, and that the figurehead is still attached to the bow of the vessel, while portion of the foremast yet remains.  Steps are to be taken during the next few days to clear away the seaweed so that the name can be seen.  The owner reports that the boat is built of walnut and is sheathed with pure copper.

Efforts are being made by some Crossley residents to organise a search for the original Mahogany ship stated to be at the end of Gorman's Lane.
