Overall Aim
All industry personnel who completed the basic Agsafe accreditation course, 3 or more years ago and are still involved in the handling, selling, recommending, advising and taking responsibility for the safety of farm chemicals, must now undertake further training to retain accreditation status.
Principles of Pest Management is a course with emphasis on plants, weeds, diseases, insects and pesticides. Plants in many cases are either the target pest, or the host for the target pest and thus an understanding of the biology of the plant is necessary to be able to make the correct recommendation.
Some basic information on weeds, diseases and insects is necessary with particular emphasis on their life cycles and growth habits.
Making the correct choice is one of the objectives of the course and in the main this relates to selecting the right pesticide and ensuring that it is used in such a way that a satisfactory result is obtained.
