Overall Aim
The Advanced Diploma of Fine Art is for people who want to extend and refine their existing skills as practising artists, or seek employment or self-employment in an arts-related enterprise. It is a practical studio based course with emphasis on the acquisition of a core of professional and studio support skills that are essential to survival in the art world, including research and evaluation, use of new media, arts industry practices, art criticism, theory and history, portfolio preparation and exhibition practices, and creative use of media, tools and equipment.

One year full-time or equivalent part-time study
Entry Requirements
Applicants should have successfully completed Diploma of Art, Craft and Design or equivalent. This course can also be studied at the Department of Arts at South West TAFE, Sherwood Park Campus.

Eligibilty and Exemptions to Receive a Government Subsidised Place
To receive a government subsidised place, students who enrol in Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses are subject to meeting eligibility criteria such as age and prior educational history. If applicants do not meet the eligibility criteria then they may still apply for the course, but they will not be entitled to a government subsidised place and will be charged a commercial fee. There will be some exceptional circumstances where applicants will be exempt from meeting the eligibility criteria. Please contact the Customer Service Centre on (03) 5564 8911 for more information with regards to eligibility.

Application Process
To apply for this course the applicant will be required to complete a Course Application Form. These forms are available from the Course Coordinator or our Customer Service Centre (03) 5564 8911. Alternatively you can download the form using the Application button at the top of this brochure. Contact the Course Coordinator for the closing date for this course. Any applications received after this date will be classified as late applications and will only be considered if vacancies still exist or become available at a later date.
Credits/Exemptions
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses the individual’s non-accredited training and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning or competency outcomes. RPL is sometimes referred to as Recognition of Current Competence (RCC). You can undertake a recognition assessment for individual units in most courses offered through South West TAFE. The process requires you to be able to provide evidence of competence.
