Overall Aim
This tailored course will give participants the skills and knowledge to identify alcohol and drug issues to create a greater understanding of work practices. Participants will be assisted to develop strategies to understand and support clients/students with alcohol and other drugs issues. This knowledge will be valuable in updating skills to assist in current job roles.
Course Content
A brief history of and current drugs in the community
Classification of drugs and models of addiction
Identification and risks of alcohol and drug issues
Individual and cultural differences
Harm minimisation and the process of behaviour change
Dealing with difficult behaviour and managing resistance
Rights, responsibilities, policies and procedures
Appropriate support and referral information.
