Important
Students successfully completing the course will be eligible to apply for the award of Certificate II in Engineering Studies. Please note: At the Portland campus this course is offered in conjunction with an automotive pre-apprenticeship course.
Course Description
This Certificate II in Engineering Studies course provides knowledge of engineering principles and “hands on” experience in basic fabrication techniques, machining processes and welding. This course provides a pathway for graduates to undertake further training.
Career Opportunities
The program may provide direct credits into fabrication heavy, fabrication light, mechanical, automotive, electrical or plumbing apprenticeships.

Course Length
The course is delivered full-time over six months from July to December.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must have a high degree of motivation and interest along with literacy and numeracy skills appropriate to this level. Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

Applicants will undergo an interview to determine aptitude for the course.

Credits/Exemptions
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses the individual’s non-accredited training and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning or competency outcomes. RPL is sometimes referred to as Recognition of Current Competence (RCC). You can undertake a recognition assessment for individual units in most courses offered through South West TAFE. The process requires you to be able to provide evidence of competence.
