Important
Studying via flexible delivery requires students to be employed within a workplace that supports their training. Documentation will be required from the workplace supervisor for assessment purposes.
Course Description
The Certficate III in Government (SSO Program) covers entry-level competencies for a career in the public sector (including education support), with a particular focus on meeting the ethical and legislative requirements of public service while undertaking a diverse range of general work activities. Electives should reflect the responsibilities of the job role.
Career Opportunities
This qualification covers the range of skills and knowledge required by those providing support services in schools (government and private) in a range of functions such as administration, library assistance, disability support, and general support in the classroom. It is entry level training for teacher aide and school support occupations. The program provides a pathway for: • graduates to undertake further training in their chosen stream (Administration, children’s services, disabilities or librarianship) • apprenticeships and traineeships within the government (public sector) services.

Course Length
The Certificate III in Government can be studied either full time or part time. For this course there is an expectation that you will work in your own time and at your own pace.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal academic requirements for this course. However, you do need to have a work placement in a school (either paid or voluntary) to undertake this course.
Pathways
This course provides a pathway for graduates to undertake further training in their chosen stream (Administration, children's services, diabilities or librarianship).

Credits/Exemptions
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses the individual’s non-accredited training and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning or competency outcomes. RPL is sometimes referred to as Recognition of Current Competence (RCC). You can undertake a recognition assessment for individual units in most courses offered through South West TAFE. The process requires you to be able to provide evidence of competence.
