Course Description
The Certificate I in Information Technology will introduce you to computers and how they are used in the home, school and workplace. It is a foundation course and is designed for people who have either no previous computing skills or for those who might have limited and/or informal training. The course comprises nationally accredited competencies from the Information Technology training package and as such is recognised Australia wide.
Career Opportunities
Graduates will have skills in a wide range of software applications, the Windows operating system, keyboarding skills and a theoretical understanding of computer fundamentals.

The course is run for 3.5 hours per week over 12 months
Entry Requirements
There are no formal academic requirements for this course. The classes cater for absolute beginners through to students who may already have existing computer skills.

Credits/Exemptions
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses the individual’s non-accredited training and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning or competency outcomes. RPL is sometimes referred to as Recognition of Current Competence (RCC). You can undertake a recognition assessment for individual units in most courses offered through South West TAFE. The process requires you to be able to provide evidence of competence.
