Course Description
This is a one semester pre-employment program to assist students who aspire to obtain an apprenticeship or employment in the plumbing and gas fitting industry. It provides experience and knowledge for an informed choice of career, an understanding of the nature of work, workplace and employment and a recognised qualification for credit into further education and training.

This course provides a pathway for graduates into a plumbing apprenticeship.
Course Commencement
February and July 2010
Course Length
Four days per week over 15 weeks, from 8.00 am to 5.00 pm.
Entry Requirements
Applicants will need to have completed at least Year 10 or equivalent and attend an interview and selection process.
Pre-Requisites
Due to safety requirements overalls and leather boots are to be worn at all times while in the workshop area. Overalls and boots are the responsibility of the student. The Institute will supply welding goggles and safety glasses. First Aid and Construction Induction Course (formerly Red Card) are also included. If you have not completed a recent First Aid or Construction Induction course, an additional $27.50 and $35.00 will be charged for the cost of these courses.
Equipment
Atool kit will be loaned to you for lease of $50.00. A contract will be made between yourself and South West TAFE that you are totally responsible for the tools loaned to you. Books are included in your fees and will be provided by your teacher.

Credits/Exemptions
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses the individual’s non-accredited training and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning or competency outcomes. RPL is sometimes referred to as Recognition of Current Competence (RCCRCCRCC).
You can undertake a recognition assessment for individual units in most courses offered through South West TAFETAFE. The process requires you to be able to provide evidence of competence.
