Course Description
This is the qualification needed to gain an MED 2 certificate of competency from Marine Safety Victoria.
This course is designed for applicants to gain the skills and knowledge required to operate propulsion and auxiliary motors up to 750KW.

Career Opportunities
Graduates may pursue a career as a marine engine driver grade 2 onboard commercial vessels in state survey.

This course is delivered full-time over three weeks.

Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.

Eligibilty and Exemptions to Receive a Government Subsidised Place
To receive a government subsidised place, students who enrol in Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses are subject to meeting eligibility criteria such as age and prior educational history. If applicants do not meet the eligibility criteria then they may still apply for the course, but they will not be entitled to a government subsidised place and will be charged a commercial fee. There will be some exceptional circumstances where applicants will be exempt from meeting the eligibility criteria. Please contact the Customer Service Centre on (03) 5564 8911 for more information with regards to eligibility.

Credits/Exemptions
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses the individual’s non-accredited training and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning or competency outcomes. RPL is sometimes referred to as Recognition of Current Competence (RCC).
You can undertake a recognition assessment for individual units in most courses offered through South West TAFE. The process requires you to be able to provide evidence of competence.
