Course Description
This course is designed for those wishing to enter the equine sector or further their skills and knowledge to improve their career opportunities in the sector. The equine sector is a major employer in Australia and generates billions of dollars of income, the thoroughbred racing industry generates in excess of $7 billion in income per annum.

Career Opportunities
Graduates from this course can enter the industry at a base level within a range of occupations including performance horses and equestrian, racing, breeding enterprises and studs, animal attendant, sales and equine recreational businesses. Graduates may also use this course a an entry level qualification to move into further study at teriary or higher education levels.

This course is delivered over two years by flexible delivery.

Entry Requirements
Applicants must have satisfactorily completed an approved Year 10 course of study or its equivalent, or be mature age. Applicants need not have horse skills, but some skills and experience in the horse industry is desirable.

Pathways
This course contains units of competency from five training packages: Rural Production, Outdoor Recreation, Racing, Retail and Business Services. Students completing the program may be eligible for credit transfer into further qualifications.

Credits/Exemptions
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses the individual’s non-accredited training and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning or competency outcomes. RPL is sometimes referred to as Recognition of Current Competence (RCC).
You can undertake a recognition assessment for individual units in most courses offered through South West TAFE. The process requires you to be able to provide evidence of competence.
