Course Description
The Diploma of Accounting will further develop your accounting skills and is for participants with some prior work experience or training in this field. Both courses are nationally accredited and consist of nationally accredited modules.
Career Opportunities
Graduates may undertake any financial duties as a bookkeeper in a professional office or small business. This includes producing basic management reports, managing and working within a small office and making decisions in a legal context.
Course Commencement
February 2010 for on campus and ongoing for off campus.
Course Length
The course is conducted full-time over 12 months or part-time equivalent. There is an expectation that students will work out of class times. It is an advantage to have access to a computer at home but not essential, as computer facilities are available at the campus. This course can also be self paced and conducted in an off campus (distance education mode).
Entry Requirements
To be eligible for entry into this course, applicants should have satisfactorily passed year 12 (VCE or equivalent), or have sufficient work experience, or be mature age applicant.
Pathways
The course provides articulation into further accounting studies. Pathways also exist to further study at university level - credit or exepmtions may be available.
Eligibilty and Exemptions to Receive a Government Subsidised Place
To receive a government subsidised place, students who enrol in Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses are subject to meeting eligibility criteria such as age and prior educational history. If applicants do not meet the eligibility criteria then they may still apply for the course, but they will not be entitled to a government subsidised place and will be charged a commercial fee. There will be some exceptional circumstances where applicants will be exempt from meeting the eligibility criteria. Please contact the Customer Service Centre on (03) 5564 8911 for more information with regards to eligibility.

Application Process
To apply for this course the applicant will be required to complete a Course Application Form. These forms are available from the Course Coordinator or our Customer Service Centre (03) 5564 8911. Alternatively you can download the form using the Application button at the top of this brochure. Contact the Course Coordinator for the closing date for this course. Any applications received after this date will be classified as late applications and will only be considered if vacancies still exist or become available at a later date.

VTAC applications are available through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC), please refer to www.vtac.edu.au or directly to the Institute.
How to Enrol

Off Campus Enrolment
Off-campus enrolments can be completed at the Off-Campus Centre in Warrnambool, or at the Customer Service Centres located at the Hamilton, Portland or Glenormiston Campus of South West TAFE. It is recommended that students enrol in just one or two units on initial enrolment. Further units can be added to enrolments during the year.
Credits/Exemptions
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses the individual’s non-accredited training and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning or competency outcomes. RPL is sometimes referred to as Recognition of Current Competence (RCC). You can undertake a recognition assessment for individual units in most courses offered through South West TAFE. The process requires you to be able to provide evidence of competence.
