Course Description
This on-line flexibly delivered course provides skills in nursery production and parks and gardens sectors, offering knowledge and practical work in landscaping, nursery, gardening, turf, revegetation and production horticulture. The diploma is a managerial level qualification to graduate students with superior theoretical, practical, managerial and planning skills.
Career Opportunities
Graduates may gain employment in a retail nursery/garden centre, in landscape design/installation/maintenance, parks and gardens staff, nursery production and specialist production such as flowers, grapes, herbs and food. Other options include garden maintenance, sales representative, teaching or scientific research.
Course Commencement
It is delivered flexibly via on-line studies and workshops.
Course Length
Completion is usually in two to three years part time.
Entry Requirements
There are no formal academic requirements for this course. Applicants seeking entry will be required to demonstrate they have the underpinning knowledge and skills to study at this level.
Eligibilty and Exemptions to Receive a Government Subsidised Place
To receive a government subsidised place, students who enrol in Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses are subject to meeting eligibility criteria such as age and prior educational history. If applicants do not meet the eligibility criteria then they may still apply for the course, but they will not be entitled to a government subsidised place and will be charged a commercial fee. There will be some exceptional circumstances where applicants will be exempt from meeting the eligibility criteria. Please contact the Customer Service Centre on (03) 5564 8911 for more information with regards to eligibility.

Application Process
To apply for this course the applicant will be required to complete a Course Application Form. These forms are available from the Course Coordinator or our Customer Service Centre (03) 5564 8911. Alternatively you can download the form using the Application button at the top of this brochure. Contact the Course Coordinator for the closing date for this course. Any applications received after this date will be classified as late applications and will only be considered if vacancies still exist or become available at a later date.

VTAC applications are available through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC), please refer to www.vtac.edu.au or directly to the Institute.
Credits/Exemptions
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses the individual’s non-accredited training and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning or competency outcomes. RPL is sometimes referred to as Recognition of Current Competence (RCC).

You can undertake a recognition assessment for individual units in most courses offered through South West TAFE. The process requires you to be able to provide evidence of competence.
