Course Description
This practical course provides a strong understanding in computer system operating principles. The field of computer systems covers network systems, management, maintenance and design.
Career Opportunities
This course prepares graduates for Corporate Internet/Intranet and Internet Service Provider set-up and administration, Network Installation and set-up, Installation and testing of computer equipment and Computer system fault finding and modification.
Course Length
The course is conducted over two years full-time at Warrnambool.
Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirements are the satisfactory completion of Year 12 or mature age. Students will need sufficient literacy, numeracy and basic computer skills. Potential students may be required to undertake a skills test to determine suitability for the course.
Pathways
This course can provide credits towards various university degree courses in the fields of computer science, information technology or electronic engineering.
Eligibilty and Exemptions to Receive a Government Subsidised Place
To receive a government subsidised place, students who enrol in Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses are subject to meeting eligibility criteria such as age and prior educational history. If applicants do not meet the eligibility criteria then they may still apply for the course, but they will not be entitled to a government subsidised place and will be charged a commercial fee. There will be some exceptional circumstances where applicants will be exempt from meeting the eligibility criteria. Please contact the Customer Service Centre on (03) 5564 8911 for more information with regards to eligibility.

Application Process
To apply for this course the applicant will be required to complete a Course Application Form. These forms are available from the Course Coordinator or our Customer Service Centre (03) 5564 8911. Alternatively you can download the form using the Application button at the top of this brochure. Contact the Course Coordinator for the closing date for this course. Any applications received after this date will be classified as late applications and will only be considered if vacancies still exist or become available at a later date.

Credits/Exemptions
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that assesses the individual’s non-accredited training and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning or competency outcomes. RPL is sometimes referred to as Recognition of Current Competence (RCC). You can undertake a recognition assessment for individual units in most courses offered through South West TAFE. The process requires you to be able to provide evidence of competence.
