As part of the National Centre for Sustainability, South West TAFE recognises the fact that the future of our planet is everyone’s responsibility. One of the greatest challenges we face is the ability to manage our resources and meet the needs of a growing population.
South West TAFE takes their role in this challenge very seriously. This includes undertaking extensive work to reduce the institute’s impact on the environment as well as working in partnership with industry, government and the community to support the development and implementation of sustainable practices.
Sustainability training is another focus of
South West TAFE. Many courses,
including the Diploma of Sustainability are
offered throughout TAFE and sustainable
principles are also being incorporated into
as many varied courses throughout TAFE as
possible.
National Centre for Sustainability
The National Centre for Sustainability (NCS) is a collaboration of six tertiary educational institutions. It brings together a dedicated network of individuals to further develop and promote sustainability concepts and education. The six collaborating institutes are:
Swinburne University of Technology, Victoria
- Sunraysia Institute of TAFE, Victoria
- University of Ballarat, Victoria
- South West Institute of TAFE, Victoria
- Challenger TAFE, Western Australia
- Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE, Queensland
The NCS was established to provide educational leadership and work in collaboration with industry, government and community. The collaboration responds to the community’s desire for sustainability practices that support economic and social development. We provide advice to educational authorities and work with government to ensure that Australia is well placed in vocational education and training markets relevant to sustainability.
Being part of this collaboration ensures the best
possible expertise and resources are
collected to provide first class Sustainability training
to South West Victoria.

Key staff members of the six NCS institutes meet on a regular basis to work on collaborative projects, combine resources and share experiences. South West TAFE works with the other NCS institutes to ensure that the message of a sustainable future transcends beyond institutional boundaries.
