The Centre for Food and Primary Industries was created as the hub for an increasingly innovative set of study areas: Agriculture and Equine; Environment, Sustainability and GIS; Horticulture; and Science and Food Processing. Over the years, training methods have evolved from craft-based techniques to highly complex and technology-driven sciences. Environment, Sustainability and GIS
In the past, there were limited opportunities for those who wanted to pursue a career in the environmental sphere, but now that global warming, water shortages and sustainable agriculture are household concerns, skilled professionals are in demand. Our Environment, Sustainability and GIS study area is a leader in its field, employing expert trainers who are strongly committed to encouraging and developing environmental stewardship. Horticulture
From home gardeners to industry professionals, our Horticulture study area provides the latest in industry training using state of the art facilities. Our purpose-built hothouse is fully computerised greenhouse with light, temperature, air movement and humidity control and 100% recycled irrigation water.
Horticulture study options range from short courses through to certificates and an online diploma.
Science and Food Processing
The Science and Food Processing study area offers training programs that equip students with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in 21st-century industry. Training facilities include fully equipped science laboratories and food hall.
Meat Training Australia
As part of our commitment to a strong, skilled workforce, we have developed Meat Training Australia (MTA), a specialist training organisation in the meat processing industry. Students can be assured that their qualifications are not only accredited, but recognised throughout the entire meat processing industry. Short courses are also delivered throughout the year.
