Agriculture and Equine
South West TAFE’s agriculture and equine courses are recognised throughout Australia and overseas. Our links with industry and business ensure students receive a practical and industry-focused education. Graduates may progress to ownership or management roles and gain rewarding jobs in the industry. Imagine working in an equestrian centre or training stable anywhere in the world or big names like Magic Millions and International Racehorse Transport (IRT). Agriculture and equine students will gain first-class theoretical and practical training at our Glenormiston College in the grounds of a 19th-century homestead. Enjoy hands-on experience at our 36-hectare horse stud and commercial dairy farm with 220 cows. Racing programs are developed and delivered in conjunction with leading industry bodies including Racing Victoria Limited (RVL). Students engage with industry representatives during their training, enabling them to experience first hand the career opportunities available to them. We also deliver sheep and wool training across a number of sites including our Hamilton Campus. Students can gain the skills to prepare and class their own wool clips, learn how to shear sheep to a professional level and discover a range of associated shearer or shedhand skills. Graduates of the Certificate IV in Wool Classing are also entitled to apply to the Australian Wool Exchange for registration as an Australian woolclasser. We also offer practical and theoretical short courses throughout the year including farm planning, staff management and supervision, relief milking, tractor, front end loader and all terrain vehicles operation. In keeping with our commitment to industry, trainers work closely with national companies such as Elders, developing training solutions to meet their individual needs. |
