Information Skills Training & Support
We live in a world where information is available in abundance. To take advantage of this while studying at South West TAFE, and later on in the workplace, it is important for us to become information literate.
Sheer abundance of information and technology will not in itself create more informed citizens without a complimentary understanding and capacity to use information effectively. (From the Australian and New Zealand Information Literacy Framework, 2004)
Information literacy is an increasingly important part of lifelong learning, and involves being able to:
- recognise when information is needed, and determine what information is required
- search for and access information efficiently
- critically evaluate information
- use information effectively to learn, solve problems and make decisions (etc.)
- use information within ethical and legal guidelines (acknowledge the work of others, and comply with Copyright.) etc..
