How to become an Apprentice or Trainee?
The first step is to find an employer who is willing to offer you an Apprenticeship or Traineeship in your chosen field. This can be achieved by checking newspapers, the internet, employment agencies for job vacancies, contacting employers directly or registering with a Group Training Company in your local area.
Once you have found employment, your employer will need to contact a New Apprenticeship Centre (NAC). They can find their nearest NAC by calling 1800 639629 or by logging onto www.newapprenticeships.gov.au.
Who can become an Apprentice or Trainee?
- Secondary school students – now have the opportunity to gain traineeship qualifications under the school based new apprenticeship program. This program enables year 11 and 12 students to combine VCE/VCAL study and Part time courses employment whilst gaining a nationally accredited traineeship qualification.
- New employees – are workers that have been employed with an organisation for less than three months Full time courses or twelve months Part time courses.
- Existing employees – are workers that have been employed with an organisation for more than three months Full time courses or twelve months Part time courses.
