VTAC Application
Most applications for Full time courses study in Advanced Diploma, Diploma or Certificate IV courses need to be made through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC).

The VTAC Guide is published in late July each year and is available from newsagents, secondary schools, careers advisers or from the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre. Further information about the VTAC process can be obtained by contacting VTAC on 1300 364 133.
Year 12 chronic circumstances application
Year 12 students who have experienced circumstances that can be demonstrated to have had an adverse impact on the final year of their secondary school performance may also apply for assistance.

All applicants who lodge an application related to Year 12 chronic circumstances will be considered for entry into the nominated program. Information will only be used for the purpose of selecting and making an offer to an applicant and will be treated in accordance with the principles of the Information Privacy Act 2000 (Victoria) and the National Privacy Policy (2000).

Access & Equity (Special Entry - SEAS)
South West Institute of TAFE values the diversity of its client group and seeks to provide access and equity for all people undertaking vocational education and training.
Access and Equity Schemes are targeted at applicants who have been unable to reach their full educational potential or who may have access to the courses of their choice restricted because of their life circumstances. The Institute’s selection processes provide for special consideration to be given to potential students who believe they have a case to make. Individual consideration will be given to a student making a request in writing to the Institute Registrar.

The Access and Equity Schemes available for special consideration under VTAC entry conditions at South West TAFE include:
Category 1: Mature Age Entry
Prospective students who are 18 years of age and over, may be eligible to enter courses if they have relevant work experience and/or can demonstrate their potential to successfully complete the course they have applied for. Course Coordinators will offer places at the Institute to mature age applicants on the merits of individual cases.
Category 3: Recognition as an Indigenous Australian
An Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person is one who:
- is of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, and
- identifies as an Australian Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, and
- is accepted as such by the community in which he/she lives or has lived
Category 4: Difficult Family Circumstances
If you have experienced difficult family circumstances that may impact on your studies you may be entitled to assistance. All applicants will be assessed on an individual basis.
Category 5: Disadvantaged Socio-economic Background
Provision is made for persons currently in receipt of a Centrelink payment and holders of Health Care Cards or Pension Cards. If you are not in receipt of a Centrelink payment but believe you have experienced social or economic disadvantage you may also apply. All applicants will be assessed on an individual basis.
Category 9: Women in Non-traditional Areas
Women who apply for study in an area that is traditionally male oriented may be eligible for assistance. Applications will be assessed against recognised non-traditional study areas.
Category 10: Disability or Long Term Medical Condition
If you have experienced a disability or ongoing medical condition that has impacted or may impact on your studies you may be eligible to apply under the Special Entry Access Scheme. Applicants will be asked to provide supporting documentation from a medical/health practitioner to support your claim
