Campus history

Portland campus was established at the Hurd Street site in 1988 after a move from the Portland Technical School.  The new campus consisted of the metals training shed which incorporated an administration office and one general purpose classroom.

In 1995 portable classrooms were established onsite to expand general classroom space and student amenities. A further extension in 1999 saw a new facility constructed incorporating administration offices, computer labs, general purpose classrooms, a library, video conferencing facilities and an elctrotechnology lab.  Car parking was also extended and a Vic Roads training pad installed for motorcycle licence testing.

Further extensions were created in 2000 with the expansion to the Industry Training Facility which incorporated building, maritime and plastics training for Vestas Wind Blades Australia.  A horticulture compound and training facility was also established.  The Industry Training Facility was redeveloped to include automotive in 2007 and building and construction were moved to B Building at the rear of the campus after securing a lease for the new facility.

Portland Campus has experienced considerable growth over the past 21 years. In 1988 the campus was established with 488 students. In 2008 our student numbers increased to 1300 for the 12 month period.

In 2009 the campus will celebrate its 21st birthday with a number of student and staff events schedule throughout the year.
